Biography
A lifelong songwriter, Ellen Braun has learned that it is fruitless to resist the endless hankering to create music and melodies.
After making a name for herself on the stage in the early 2000s, and releasing her self-titled EP in 2005, Ellen did the thing where she thought she could do it all; however children, and a career in environmental policy, meant only a handful of performances each year. All of that changed circa 2015 when Ellen moved to the mountains (and moved mountains!) when her songs decided it was time for them to be shared with the world. In 2017 Ellen officially re-launched her solo career and embarked on Trundled, a music duo project with BC’s Joseph Shea.
Since then, her song “Inchoate” has cracked the top 100 in CBC’s Searchlight competition, she has attended prestigious residencies at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, joined Canada’s Music Incubator Artist Entrepreneur Program, and has recorded music for film, including Chasing a Trace. Her pandemic anthem “Okay” (recorded and produced by Howard Bilerman at the Banff Centre in 2019) made way for multiple Canada-wide radio sing-alongs; and songs from her first full-length Trundled album, High Water, produced by acclaimed Canadian award-winning producer, Daniel Ledwell has enjoyed time on Spotify playlists, charted on community-radio, been nominated for a YYC Music Award, and been on rotation on CBC and CKUA. Ellen has performed and/or toured with acclaimed musicians including Craig Cardiff, John Wort Hannam, Sarah Hiltz, Danny Michel, Bobby C Dove, Carla J Easton, and Braden Gates; and has collaborated with other musical legends including Howard Bilerman, Kim Richey, Beth Nielsen-Chapman, Verlon Thompson, Byron Hill, John Thiel, David Francey, and Kevin Welch.
Ellen is back to touring again in 2022, having recently played the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, Tennessee, as well as the Smithers Midsummer and Canmore Folk Festivals. Ellen has plans to tour Canada and record her first full-length album over the coming year. Ellen is based in the Bow Valley, near Banff, AB.
